Severe storm on its way to New York |
The nor'easter, which rarely comes in October, will hit New York, New Jersey and the surrounding states in the next hours with heavy rain and strong winds.
New York officials warned that the area could see up to four inches of rain Monday night through Tuesday.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency in the state late Monday afternoon.
Officials said the state of emergency will go into effect at 8 p.m.
Statement: The forecast storm is expected to bring significant flash floods, coastal flooding and wind storms across New Jersey Residents must stay off the roads, be vigilant, and follow all safety protocols.
The storm prompted New York's Emergency Response Agency to issue a travel advisory Monday evening through Tuesday afternoon, as the National Weather Service announced the possibility of flash floods for five neighborhoods in the period extending from 8 p.m. Monday to 5 pm on Tuesday.
