The jury in the "Kyle Rittenhouse" case is already on its second day of deliberations On Wednesday in Kenosha, Wisconsin, jurors began their second day of deliberations in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial. A California judge has ordered the electric car company Tesla to pay a former employee $137 million in compensation for condoning racist practices in one of its factories, in a ruling that would shake American companies, according to a lawyer.
"They have decided to pay a sum that could be a warning sign for American companies" to get them "not to engage in racist behavior and not to allow racism to continue," civil rights attorney Larry Organ told AFP.
Hiring his services through an employment agency, Owen Diaz worked as a freight elevator operator between June 2015 and July 2016 at the Tesla plant in Fremont, California, where he was subjected to racist abuse in a hostile work environment, according to court documents.
During the trial, Diaz explained that black workers in the factory, where his son also works, were constantly subjected to racial abuse.
"The progressive image of Tesla is a facade that conceals backward and degrading treatment of black American employees," the complaint said.
